A knife gate valve is a type of gate valve where a thin, sharp “knife”-like disc (gate) slides into a seat to cut through and shut off the flow of media that may contain solids or high concentrations of suspended particles. Unlike standard gate valves, the knife disc is ideal for challenging media because it can cut through build-up and maintain shut-off.
When automated, the knife gate valve is fitted with an actuator (pneumatic, hydraulic or electric) so it can operate remotely, automatically, or as part of a control system.
